AAAAAH IT’S THE DESIGN MODEL FOR MY PARSH LOOK AT IT
A few people on here asked if I had a Patreon, so I made one. Rather, I made a
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
—because let’s be honest, that’s what it’s really funding. I promise to spend any cash sent my way as irresponsibly as humanly possible. Alternately, if you just need to see what I’ve written lately (and you do), I’ll be rounding up the list of links there, too.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
In exchange for funding my poor vehicular decisions, there is a parshletter with otherwise unpublished takes on cars, Puffalumps, food, or even random life stuff in general. I’d also like to open the parshletter up for questions, and since the first one’s going to be the public example post up anyway, I guess I’ll ask here. Ask me anything, and I’ll answer it in the first parshletter.
Up further in the parshtreon tiers are bonus posts where I try strange, new and/or painful foods, personalized burnouts, team shirts and a few obvious gags. (I will uphold my end of the $917/mo. deal and send a postcard from the ‘Ring, though, just in case.)
I’m still freelancing, so that means my work is still scattered all over. If you just want to find out where I’ve been writing, bookmark the Patreon page as I’ll be throwing up a list of links each week as a pu
blic post.

Can we make custom requests? $1000 a month and you take the Porsche off a Duke's of Hazard style ramp?

Depends?
I need that parsh, but for $1,000 a month..........hmmmm. Probably not, as
I still need that parsh.

It’s time for some investigative journalism into what a Porsche 944 can and cannot do. We know it can (kinda) Le Mons but what about rally? Can it drift? How is it on a frozen lake? You should run 1 Lap of America with it.
Lets put you and Dusty in the 944 and find out how far across the country you can get before you kill each other.

I had thought up many questions earlier and now I’m drawing a blank. Oh dear. Hmm..
1. How heavy is that design model and is it yours to keep?
2. What do you plan on eating during the Gampler 500? Are you allergic to any foods?
3. Are adult diapers ever a thing during this rally?
![]() 03/09/2019 at 11:10 |
|
Please tell us more about the model you are holding, please! So many questions. Did you build it? Is it plastic? Does all the doors open, good, trunk, front tires turn left/ right? Is it heavy? How does the engine look? Why are the tires falling off the rims? Is it a turbo?

Okay, the numbers are out, and I should absolutely
not
do that:

For 9% of what I get in pledges, I can order my own dang shirts and stickers through vendors I already trust to do a good job with them. Yikes. What are they thinking with this?
Honestly, I could even do without workshops or priority customer support for what I do, but losing tiers would be, well, a glorified Ko-Fi that pulls recurring payments
. (
To which I already have a Ko-Fi, and all I lose from its gifted “coffees” are PayPal fees.)

I think the USP for doing it i n- platform is that you don’t have to mess with anything. You don’t have to find a fulfillment house or god forbid waste a bunch of your own time doing pick/pack/ship or any of the other stuff that’s “built-in” with the Patreon offering.

True, true. I
t might make sense for super-huge creators who anticipate a ton of orders, but for smaller pages like mine? Oof, that’s too much.

Thanks for the question!
I answered another, similar question about that model for the
first parshletter
, but probably should’ve included
yours as you asked
for
more detai
l. Anyway, I answered it in
today’s parshletter
, but since it’s a subscriber-only post, I’ll repost the answer here:
That is an original design model for the 944 from the Porsche archives! If some of the things look a bit different than the final car, that could explain it! I don’t think the 944 ever got those wheels, for one. It was mostly plastic, but I didn’t build it. I don’t think I was alive at the time!
It appears to be the European non-turbo model from the bumper. I don’t think it opened or moved beyond maybe rolling, either. I was honestly a little afraid of breaking a priceless piece of history to try and play with it. There’s no door handle, for one. It wasn’t heavy, as I think it was mostly hollow inside. The tires on a couple of these older design models were falling off the rims, as I don’t think they were designed for posterity. They’re more to show the design’s proportions in 3D meatspace, just in a miniature form.
The room where it was kept is really cool, though—fully temperature controlled, with an intense fire system that would suck the oxygen out of the space in case of an emergency. We even had to sign a release just to walk in there.
So, you could probably pop the tire back on if you really wanted to, and were super careful. It still felt shockingly supple for thirty-something-year-old rubber!
